November 5, 1996 Special release to wildlife publications Call for deep burrow probe participants Wildlifers studying deep, long burrows, such as those inhabited by gopher tortoises and desert tortoises, are invited to join a consortium of "prototype partners." Christensen Designs, a California company specializing in video systems for wildlife research, has designed a 15-foot tethered probe and is calling for five to ten participants to help field test the prototype. Christensen Designs will provide unlimited technical support and free repairs. Comments and suggestions made by those participating will be implemented in the final version, and the field-testers will receive a completely updated version. The total cost to initial participants is $5,000 which represents a $4,000 savings from the expected $9,000 retail price for finalized production systems. Christensen Designs provides a variety of video systems for burrows, elevated nests, and surveillance, as well as separate camera kits.
