Peeper 2000 Overview
Each system includes:
The Head Mounted Video Display (HMD), video probe, battery interface charger and Pelican® case. All systems use MIL SPEC connectors. Systems are waterproof for use in rain and damp soil.
The following video extensions are interchangeable
The HMD allows for hands-free burrow exploration
The gooseneck extensions have a special cable housing that flexes through the burrow and twists at the direction of the operator. The IR illumination extends to 2 meters and allows the user to observe the secrets of the den. Biologists using our burrow probe say they often achieve high success rates, depending on the number of forks, U-curves and soil conditions within the burrow architecture.
Our probes are extremely lightweight
The carryweight for the Peeper and Roo is about 12 lbs., including the battery interface. The ship weight is about 15 lbs. more because the systems are packed in a Pelican® case.
When selecting the probe of your choice, these are the design elements to consider:
Peep-A-Roo (Roo)
This probe is 1.0 inches diameter and 4 meters long. Its namesake is the kangaroo rat and this probe handles the smaller burrows of voles, snakes, lizards, tiger salamanders, spiders and insects.
Peeper Video Probe (Peeper)
The Peeper is 2.3 inches diameter and easily navigates the larger burrows of desert tortoises, gopher tortoises, burrowing owls, prairie dogs, kit foxes, red foxes, and other small mammal burrows. This probe is used to study king fishers, and other cavity nesting birds.
Our customers often buy the Roo and Peeper in combination so they can explore a greater variety of burrows. We sell these and other extensions to customers who have already purchased a system.
Options and Accessories
Purchase of one of these systems allows users to purchase "add-on" probe extensions. The Peeper Video Probe(tm) or Peep-A-Roo(tm) can be used interchangeably with the head mounted video display and battery interface purchased with the first system.
A miniature microphone may be installed into the 2.3" Peeper Video Probe(tm) head. This option allows a researcher to monitor and record audible sounds near the proximity of the probe head. For best price, install this option at the time the system is ordered. Peepers can be retrofitted for this audio pickup option.
The audio pickup is not available with Peep-A-Roo.
Peeper Video Probe System (2.3" diameter probe)
 This video probe has been used to explore the dens of burrowing owls and small mammals. The gooseneck probe contains no "memory" and is flexible and easy to use. The head mounted display offers maximum hands-free ergonomics and ease of observation.Probe Specifications

Peep-A-Roo Video System (1.0" diameter probe)
The Peep-A-Roo has been used to explore smaller burrows, such as voles, kangaroo rats and snakes The gooseneck probe is extremely flexible.Probe Specifications

Head Mounted Video Display System (display only)
This head mounted video display is used in all Peeper 2000 systems, which includes the Peeper Video Probe, and Peep-A-Roo. The HMD is not sold separately.HMD Specifications
